No surprises in Sunday’s Reggae 6
THERE were no real surprises on yesterday's Reggae 6 with SONOGRAM being everybody's banker at odds of 1-5, an easy winner of the opening event with Tevin Foster, setting the stage for calm waters and a $31,033 payout to winning tickets.
A relatively easy Reggae 6 will result in this Saturday's bet opening with a single-winning ticket jackpot of $9.18 million, lure enough to take a shot at, especially with the championship battle between Tevin Foster and Raddesh Roman at its peak.
Dane Dawkins, champion jockey 2022, marked his return to Caymanas Park from his sojourn at Canada's Assiniboia Downs with victory astride 5-2 chance NAKAMURA in the second event at six furlongs, outfinishing Paul Francis aboard GENERATIONAL by a neck.
Bettors were warned in yesterday's Reggae 6 preview to respect PRINCIPAL TIFFANY's recent victory among non-winners of two races, a prediction she lived up to with a narrow victory in the grade above, outbattling BLUE SKY by a nose to win the third at odds of 3-2.
PRINCE DOMINICK used back-class to spring a mild upset at 5-1 in the fourth at six furlongs but wasn't that tough an obstacle, leaving claiming rider Shane Richardson to close the Reggae 6 with a two-timer, SPEEDIE HARE and MS CHERRY.
SPEEDIE HARE made all at five furlongs straight, Richardson being a passenger for the first three furlongs before asking the speedster to quicken away at a king's ransom of 5-2.
Sceptical bettors watched as Richardson had to dismount quickly after passing the winning post, loosening the girth to assist an exhausted SPEEDIE HARE, who had to be doused with water to aid in recovery after leaving the winners' enclosure.
Aboard MS CHERRY at four furlongs straight, Richardson angled the Sensational Slam-Fiftyshadesofgray filly to mid-track from post-position three, outfinishing INDESTRUCTIBLE, who had the benefit of the track bias from stall 10, but was not strong enough to match the 6-5 favourite in the rush for the wire.
Racing continues at the weekend with a Saturday-Sunday meet.
