Tequila Flight derails Reggae 6
COCKTAIL lovers would have spotted the 'rake' that jolted Sunday's Reggae 6, 9-1 outsider TEQUILA FLIGHT beating 3-1 chance, JACK DANIEL, in the fifth event, derailing bets closing on 1-5 favourite SHE'S ADORABLE.
Surviving Reggae 6 bets were each rewarded with $15,919, a decent payout, considering there were four highly fancied winners - ESUSE ME GOODBYE (1-2), ADENOSINE (1-1), FUNOMETER (4-5) and SHE'S ADORABLE (1-5).
UNRULY BOSS (3-1) collaring favourite PHOENIX RISEN stealing home would have been the only other Reggae 6 hiccup but one that was all but predicted in last week's preview, "Any of PHOENIX RISEN, UNRULY BOSS or CATABA could turn up in unbeatable form".
ADENOSINE used speed and the track bias, drawn widest in a five-horse field, to make all at four furlongs straight after ESUSE ME GOODBY made light work of rivals in the Reggae 6 opener at five furlongs round.
Race-fit FUNOMETER repelled off-the-break FROM SHEER TO BEN to make all in the fourth at five furlongs straight.
TEQUILA FLIGHT left form players searching for answers - returning off the layup with questionable form, declared lame August 31, preceded by two down-the-track efforts - pouncing on CASSINI and JACK DANIEL coming off the home turn for a 14-length win at seven furlongs.
SHE'S ADORABLE had worked really well at exercise, justifying her gallops with an easy win in the sixth after taking over from APLOMB three furlongs out.
Saturday's Reggae 6 will open with a single-winning ticket jackpot of $12.5 million.
